Two main themes share the current pictorial production of Albert Faniel.
The Hautes Fagnes first of all which he says
that as many times we can walk there,
as many times we can see them differently.
His vision of the landscape has evolved, so also his way of translating it.
The documentary illustration aspect of the beginnings was gradually freed
with commendable thoroughness, certainly, but restrictive.
The brush, the knife and an original work with a roller
have gradually given the painter great freedom which surprises him:
we are now in an art of interpretation
which brings out the essential, to suggest the elements of the landscape
in compositions where the atmosphere is particularly felt.
The other theme developed later, Les Marines ,
benefited from the fagnarde experience.
Just like large expanses of snow
allowed games of frozen shades,
the wet beaches create mirror effects with northern reflections.
Other compositions suggest cities seen from the sea,
like migrants would see New York approaching.
And the visitor is free to interpret it, just like the artist
who sometimes takes pleasure in making marines in vertical formats.
As a challenge to habits.
